A New Miss University Nigeria has emerged. She is 18 years old Queen Joann Ene-Ita, a 200 level level dental and surgery student of the university of Port-Harcourt.
The event which was held in partnership with the benue state government through the office of the first lady brought together 50 university queens with 21 days camping and screening session in Markudi.
The grand finale took place on the 13th of November at the IBB square in Markudi had in attendance the First lady of Benue, Arc. Yemisi Suswam, the deputy governor, Chief Stephen Lawani who represented the executive governor, the wife of the deputy governor, the speaker benue state house of assembly, the SSG benue state, the first lady of nasarawa state, the wife of the deputy governor of Bayelsa state and others.
The queens started the show with a thrilling choreography dance that kept the crowd standing on their feet. After an intense show of fashion, catwalk, poise beauty display by the contestants individually, 10 contestants were selected by the panel of judges to make the interview stage. They were miss University of port-harcourt, miss university of benin, university of uyo, university of calabar, Madonna university, cross rivers state university of science and technology, benue state university, federal university of technology akure, olabisi onabanjo university and university of jos.
They were then screened to the top 5 finalists for the talent presentation stage which were: Miss University of portharcourt, Miss Benue state University, Miss University of benin, university of calabar and university of uyo.
Before the announcement of the new queen, Her excellency Arc. Yemisi suswam was honoured by the Miss University Nigeria organization and the United Nations pageant system as the Nigerian female role model. This award was jointly presented by Mr. Taylor nazzal, president Miss University Nigeria pageant organization and Ambassador Danielle Hugo.
Then came the announcement of the winners: Miss Teresa Ibemere (university of Benin) 2nd runner up, Miss Maureen Tarkohol (Benue state University) 1st Runner-up and Miss Joann Ene-Ita (University of portharcourt) Miss University Nigeria 2010/11 who was crowned by her predecessor Onyanta Adama.
The panels of judges were: Mr. Guy Murray Bruce, President Silverbird entertainment, Mrs. Helen Prest Ajayi, Miss Nigeria 1979, Mrs. Gift Nwankwo, Executive to the 1st lady of Bayelsa state, Abmassador Danielle Hugo, UNPS, Mr. Jacque El- Chakary- France, Dr. Audu Achigili, SSG Benue state and Mrs. Victoria Gemede.
